Things I miss

This question came up in a recent
bible study lesson:
What do you miss about being young?
The question mentioned something about a
carefree childhood, where all you needed
to do was play...etc.
I had to really think hard to come up with memories of
a carefree childhood. Since my Mom went to
work the NIGHT shift in a factory when I was an infant
and we grew up living on a farm, my 5 siblings and I
learned about work from a very young age.
I can remember climbing up on a chair
to wash dishes when I was 6 years old.
I do have some memories of building forts in the woods....
but I have alot more memories
of picking rocks and weeds out of our garden
harvesting food
scrubbing the floors and cleaning house.
Really....just working hard to keep the family going.
The main thing I miss about my childhood, is my parents.
I miss them being strong and healthy.
and now -
As my own children have grown up
and are building their own lives
(and as I sit in my daughter's bedroom, which is now our 'office' )
I miss having children in our home and in my arms.
I miss tucking my daughter in at night and laying on her bed with her discussing the 'cares of this world' with her.
I also miss the 'antics' of twin boys....NEVER a dull moment.
but now -
there are dull moments - yet there is a peace that comes from happy memories.
My husband and I truly enjoyed raising our 3 darlings, in our country home. We are
truly blessed - and I pray that my children look back at their childhood and have
happy memories.
